Notes: Satina indicates that this concert, which began at 1.15pm on a Sunday, was part of Kerzin’s series of concerts, known as the Society of Lovers of Russian Music, and that it was the first Symphony Concert sponsored by the Society. The order of the program follows Keldysh (p. 220) and Martyn (p. 539). While a review in Russkoe Slovo on January 17 perhaps suggests the work by Rimsky-Korsakov was not performed (it briefly notes works only by 'Rubinstein, Glinka, Tchaikovsky'), a longer review in Moskovskiye Vedomosti the following day confirms that Sadko was performed, without mentioning Rubinstein. Notes: Satina notes that this was the 7th concert in the season of the Moscow Philharmonic Society. She believed that the final item on the program was the first performance in Moscow of Elgar's Enigma Variations, however Keldysh (p 221) and Martyn (p. 541) indicate the performance of Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite, no. 1, with Keldysh citing a review by Rozenov in Novosti Dnya.
